The stony, fertile soils and long warm autumns at Ōhau are ideal for growing grapes. The long growing season and cool nights provide ideal conditions for flavour development, and an open canopy with good fruit exposure ensures full ripeness.
Grapes from our best blocks go into the Selected Vines range. Using a range of aromatic yeasts. winemaker Jane Cooper fermented the wine at quite cool temperatures, then clarified and stabilised the wine to enhance the aromatic freshness. Prepared for bottling in July 2018.
Aroma : Lovely aromatic notes of gala apples, and Turkish delight. A touch of spice with perfumed lift.
Palate:A deliciously weighty palate with pear drop, apple and guava flavours, and a balanced finish.
Food match: Richly flavoured fish, such as salmon linguine with cream, or roasted chicken.

About Ōhau Wines
Jane Cooper is one of New Zealand's leading winemakers and has won numerous domestic and international awards for her wines. Winemaking has taken Jane to Chile, the Hunter Valley in Australia, and Trento in Italy. Her New Zealand winemaking experience includes working for Seifried Estate in Nelson and at Matahiwi Estate in the Wairarapa.
Jane works closely with the team in Ōhau to ensure the best fruit comes off the vineyard. She believes that incorporating all aspects of wine production, from vine to bottle, is essential to ensuring the best result possible. Jane's aim is to try and preserve as much of the distinctive Ōhau fruit characteristics as possible. Modern technology and techniques are used alongside a traditional approach. The team also treats each vine and its grapes like family, frequently referring to them as their 'babies'.
